What you get that a one-van operator cannot offer is depth. The mechanic who opens the engine hatch works alongside hydraulics, electrical and generator engineers, with a fabrication workshop and a parts showroom at the same address. When the fault turns out to be a charging problem or a steering ram rather than the engine, it stays one job with one quote.

Mobile marine mechanics, and when the job comes to us
Most engine work happens aboard. The van carries the tools and the common parts; the workshop covers what a van cannot.

From the phone call to the invoice
- 1 The call. You tell us the vessel, the engine, where she is lying and what she is doing. A photo of the engine plate helps.
- 2 Diagnosis. A mechanic attends, finds the cause and reports what was found, with photos.
- 3 Written quote. Itemised parts and labour, approved by you before any repair work begins.
- 4 The work. Aboard where possible, in the workshop where not. If we find more once it is open, you hear before we go further.
- 5 Handover. Engine run and checked, what was done recorded against the vessel, and the next service date noted.
The sort of work that comes through
- Diesel injectors pulled and pop-tested on the bench to confirm opening pressure and spray pattern before the engine went back together.
- A hydraulic power steering service on a HyDrive pump: fluid, filter, bleed and pressure check.
- A stern thruster removed on the hardstand for overhaul, with the haul-out booked through the marina shipyard.
- A Northern Lights 16kW generator delivered and installed in the engine room, then commissioned.

Do your marine mechanics come to my boat?
Yes. Most diagnostics, servicing and repairs are done aboard, wherever the vessel is berthed on the Gold Coast and through South East Queensland. Work that needs a lift, a press or the workshop bench comes back to our workshop at Gold Coast City Marina, and we coordinate haul-out through the marina shipyard when the job is below the waterline.
Which engine brands do your mechanics work on?
Diesel and petrol, inboard, sterndrive and outboard. The engines we see most are Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Cummins, Caterpillar, Scania and Yamaha, and we service and repair the other major marine engine brands alongside them. Tell us the make, model and hours and we'll confirm before we book the job.
How much does a boat mechanic cost?
It depends on the engine, the fault and how the vessel is accessed, so we don't publish a rate card. Diagnosis comes first, then a written, itemised quote before any repair work begins, so you approve the cost before it is spent.
Can a mechanic look at my boat today?
If the vessel is disabled or taking on water, call 07 5612 7161 and say so: breakdowns are triaged ahead of booked work, and our emergency support page explains how that runs. For anything that can wait, we'll give you the first available date when you call.
Is a marine mechanic different from a marine engineer?
On a small vessel the two words describe the same person: someone who services and repairs the engine. On larger vessels the engine is one system among many, and the fault is as likely to sit in the hydraulics, the electrics or the generator. Our team covers all of those under one roof, so the mechanic who finds the problem is not handing it to another company to fix.
